5 Things You Need To Be Successful on Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is right around the corner! And we’re thinking a lot about how you can be successful in your fundraising efforts this year.

Here are five things you can do to make the most of your Giving Tuesday campaign.

The Most Successful Giving Tuesday Campaigns Are Planned in Advance

Giving Tuesday is a time-limited event – it only lasts 24 hours! But this doesn’t mean you should cobble together a last-minute campaign.

In fact, it means the opposite. Because Giving Tuesday is such a brief event, it’s important to maximize the time you have. The best way to do that is with a lot of advanced planning.

The earlier in the year you can start planning your Giving Tuesday strategy, the better. But make sure you give yourself at least a month before the big day.

Don’t forget to note the who, as well. Assign roles to staff members and volunteers who will handle different pieces of your plan.

Fundraising for Nonprofits Hinges on Compelling Messaging

For each new fundraising campaign your organization runs, you’ll want to choose a unique angle. The most successful Giving Tuesday campaigns are no exception.

What’s the compelling, key message you’ll communicate to your donors this year? What’s the thing that will inspire them to contribute to your campaign?

Choose 1-3 success stories from your work or your community to share across a variety of channels. Design images, calls to action, social captions, and emails that reflect the same language and talking points.

Incorporate Official Giving Tuesday Resources

Every year, GivingTuesday.org features ready-made graphics and other resources to aid in your fundraising efforts. These include logos and social images, sample language, stock photos, calendars...  Even Canva templates!

If you’re interested in using any of the official resources the Giving Tuesday campaign offers, decide early which ones you’ll select and how you’ll work them into your organization’s campaign.

Giving yourself time to plan will help you integrate these valuable resources while also keeping your campaign reflective of your organization and brand.

Get Feedback From Your Team

Be sure to involve your team in your Giving Tuesday planning. Host a brainstorming session and discuss last year’s campaign and other recent fundraising efforts. Invite feedback – what’s gone well? What hasn’t? Does anyone have a really great idea around messaging or key talking points this year?

Your campaign strategy will be stronger when it’s based on these insights. And you’ll also have buy-in from your team throughout the campaign! Your efforts will benefit from their energy and enthusiasm.

Test Your Giving Tuesday Tech in Advance

Because Giving Tuesday happens on such a compact timeline, there’s no room for technical difficulties! Testing everything beforehand will be crucial to your fundraising success during this digital campaign.

Take a look at your website. If you have increased or new traffic, will they be enticed to stay? Or is your main page littered with outdated information and broken links?

Can visitors find your donation page easily? Once they do, what’s the process for making a gift? Is it simple and limited to just a few input fields and clicks?

Are you using a reliable payment processor? Will donors feel secure sharing their financial information with you online?

Be sure that your email list is up to date and you have the necessary access to your social media profiles, as well.

Don’t Forget to Have Fun

Giving Tuesday is shaping up to be another big day of donations across the country. By keeping your messaging clear, concise, and compelling, you can engage with donors during this digital campaign – and have some fun, too!
